NewsFrame Pro Documentation

Installation – Basic Version

1) Make sure you have the NewsFrame parent theme installed.

2) Unzip your NewsFrame Pro download, and upload the nfpro directory to the /wp-content/themes/ directory on your server. Alternatively you may install the zipped package via the WordPress dashboard’s Appearance>Theme menu.

3) In Appearance>Themes, click on Activate to make NewsFrame Pro the active theme.

Installation – Business Version

1) Unzip your NewsFrame Pro download, and upload the nfprobusiness directory to the /wp-content/themes/ directory on your server. Alternatively you may install the zipped package via the WordPress dashboard’s Appearance>Theme menu.

2) In Appearance>Themes, click on Activate to make NewsFrame Pro the active theme.

License Activation

1) Access the license page via your site’s Dashboard>Appearance>NewsFrame License panel.

2) Enter your license key, and then click Save Changes.

3) Click on Activate License. You’ll now be able to use the NewsFrame Pro options panel.

Setup & Theme Options Panel Review – Basic Version

1) Visit Appearance>Theme Options to set up the NewsFrame parent theme options. Here you will choose your logo and input your social media links.

2) Check the box to activate Featured Post Management if you want to use the slider (tag = featured). If you aren’t using the slider, the most recent post will be displayed in its place.

Newsframe Options Panel

3) Visit the NewsFrame Pro options panel via Appearance>NewsFrame Pro Options.

NewsFrame Pro Theme Options Panel

4) Header Layout – this option lets you choose a stacked or the column header layout. The NewsFrame parent theme uses a stacked layout while the NewsFrame Pro demos use the column layout.

5) Header Search Bar – check this option to turn off the header search bar (for whichever header layout is active).

6) Color Scheme – choose your color scheme here. The Inverse color scheme is experimental and is not compatible with custom light backgrounds, but it works fine with dark backgrounds.

7) Custom Styles – check the box to activate the custom stylesheet, and then use the box below to input your CSS (using style tags is unnecessary). Turning off the custom stylesheet will not delete your CSS; it just prevents it from being loaded.

8) Font Pairing – choose your font pairing. The default option is Old Standard TT. The demo site uses Oswald and Droid Serif.

9) Hide Container Border – check this box to turn off the border on the top of the page.

10) Use Smaller Fonts – check this to turn off the NewsFrame jumbo fonts. Useful if you feel the font size is too large, and would prefer a more standard font size.

11) Slider Option – choose your slider style: one column or two column. In the two-column mode, the featured image or video is aligned left, with the title/subtitle/excerpt aligned to the right.

12) Slider Default Image – if some of your slider posts do not have featured images, you can input a default/fallback image here.

13) Home Page Layout – choose the standard or column-based layout.

14) Full-Width Homepage – checking this removes the sidebar from the homepage.

15) Hide Post Meta – checking this option removes the post meta (author, date, category, etc.) site-wide.

16) Disable archive excerpts – checking this option removes the home and archive page excerpt, leaving only the title and thumbnail.

Setup & Theme Options Panel Review – Business Version

1) Visit the NewsFrame Pro options panel via Appearance>NewsFrame Pro Options.

Click for full-size

Open in a new tab to view the full-size image

Header Options1) Site Logo – click on the “Upload Now” button to upload your logo. If your logo is already uploaded, just paste the URL in the box.

2) Header Layout – choose the stacked or column header layout. The stacked shows each header element on its own row; the column layout displays the logo on the left, with the other elements on the right.

3) Header Search Bar – check this box if you want to hide the header search bar.

4) Header Date – check this box if you want to hide the dateline in the header.

5) Social Media Bar – turn the header social media bar on or off. Below this field, input your social media profile URLs.

Homepage

1) Featured Post Management – turn featured-post management on or off. If it’s off, the five most recent posts will be shown. If it’s on, the only posts that will be shown are those (max=5) tagged with featured.

2) Slider Option – choose the slider type. The stacked slider displays the featured post’s title, featured image or featured video, subtitle and excerpt stacked on top of one another, each on its own row. The column slider displays the featured video or image on the left with the other elements on the right. Selecting “off” will disable the slider.

3) Slider Default Image – upload a photo if you want to use a default (fallback) image for posts in the slider without a featured image or video.

4) Home/Archive Layout – select “column layout” if you want your home and archive pages to show posts in a grid; select “standard layout” if you want to use a standard blog layout.

5) Enable the full-width home page – check this option to remove the sidebar from the home page. If you’re using the column-post layout, the grid will display in rows of three instead of two.

Styles

1) Color Scheme – choose your color scheme here. The Inverse color scheme is experimental and is not compatible with custom light backgrounds, but it works fine with dark backgrounds.

2) Custom Styles – check this box to activate the custom stylesheet. Enter your CSS rules in the box below this input. If the box is unchecked, the rules will be ignored.

3) Font Pairing – select your font pairing. The demo site uses Oswald and Droid Serif. The original NewsFrame theme uses Old Standard TT (default).

4) Use smaller fonts – check this box to disable the NewsFrame Pro jumbo fonts. Use this if you feel the font size is too large.

Tweaks

1) Hide Container Border – check this box to turn off the border on the top of the page.

2) Hide Post Meta – checking this option removes the post meta (author, date, category, etc.) site-wide.

3) Disable archive excerpts – checking this option removes the home and archive page excerpt, leaving only the title and thumbnail.
